POSITION DESCRIPTION
The individual will report to the Medtronic Shanghai Innovation Center (MSIC) functional leaderand will provide mechanical support to multiple Business Units’ project teamsby workingclosely with them on local product development. The individual will be responsible for designing, developing, refining and evaluatingmechanical and/or electro-mechanical medical device product and associated testing and production tooling.
The candidate should feel comfortable dealing with ambiguity, and confident about being able to apply engineering experience and principles to make pragmatic choices about design, manufacturing, and quality system processes. They should have great communication and collaboration skills.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Candidate needs to have a very high engineering aptitude and great execution capability.
Create concepts and prototypes for mechanical and related components
Design and develop mechanical parts for medical device products
Design and developjigs and fixtures per testing and manufacturing requirements
Plan and perform relevant testing required for products and instrumentation, based on internal testing requirements, and current compliance and regulatory standards.
Generate supporting documentationand reports
Liaise with vendors on component and tooling manufacturing
Perform research & development duties, including
Test method design, design evaluation, design reviews, design specifications, design verification and validation, design transferand OEM co-ordination.
Support product risk analysis and risk management.
Source new materials,components and equipment.
Development of component specifications, inspection methods, bills of materials and manufacturing processes.
Validate product design in preclinical or/and clinical settings
Maintain awareness of current technological developments and accepted industry standards
Some level of travel across China will be required to visit vendors and attend relevant conferences.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Bachelor’s degree (with 5+ of industrial experience) or Master’s degree (with 3+ year of industrial experience) in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field
Soundexperience indesigning, processing, testing and manufacturing of mechanical components/products, preferably in the medical device area
Ableto usea 3D CAD package(e.g. Pro.E or Solidworks)to produce component designs, layout and detailed drawings
Familiar with statistical tools, e.g. Minitab
Familiar with FEA software
Appreciation of current manufacturing techniques and technology
Appreciation of mechanical principles
Expertise with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Speak and write Mandarin and English fluently
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Able to travel domestically and internationally
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Strong work ethic and initiative in accomplishing objectives.

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in Mechanical engineering (or related advanced degree)
Experience in development of medical products
Knowledge of implantable medical devices, physiology and anatomy
