Job Description
- The Sourcing Director contributes to innovation in R&D ensuring access to external innovation in the form of scientific network, access to technologies, drug candidates and associated IP.
- Develop and implement the R&D innovation sourcing strategy and activities anchored in NNRC research groups with support of NNRC and NN R&D.
- In liaison with Innovation Sourcing, set, manage and monitor goals for the East Asia – Pacific and NNRC scouting activities.
Main job tasks:
- Accountable for identifying and evaluating relevant external opportunities across Novo Nordisk therapeutic and technology focus areas stemming from or hosted in the East Asia – Pacific Region, and coordinate in-depth assessment and facilitate due diligence of these opportunities.
- Responsible for developing significant engagement with relevant academic, biotech, pre-competitive, public/private partnerships and industry consortia.
- Accountable for identifying relevant academic institutes or individual investigators and biotech and venture networks; based on scientific value creation, building a comprehensive network with those identified as relevant key players.
- Responsible for coordinating evaluation of external opportunities with all relevant NN Focus Groups as well as other relevant corporate functions such as Business Development and New Product Planning.
- Represent Innovation Sourcing function internally to senior management and externally with key stakeholders/collaborators and at conferences/meetings.
Other areas of responsibility:
- Present and represent Novo Nordisk at partnering events. Establish seats at various events and event steering committees so as to become the focal point person for relevant bodies, TTOs, universities, principal investigators and inventors, within the geographical region

- By ensuring access to external innovation in the form of scientific network, access to technologies, drug candidates and associated IP, the Sourcing Director contributes to the innovation in R&D.
- Beyond scouting and securing new value creating opportunities to NN, evolve an in-depth knowledge about East Asia innovation eco-system and key players within.
- Channelling opportunities beyond Global Research to other relevant stakeholders
Geographic responsibility:
- East Asia and the Pacific’s except Japan with focus on P.R.C. including Hong Kong and Taiwan, South Korea (Republic of Korea) with future expansion to the Pacific’s including Singapore.
- Position requires substantial engagement with state and regional officials within relevant areas of science and technology.
- Excellent social skills and knowledge of relevant cultural differences in the regions.
- The Director will be located in China and tethered to NNRCC
Knowledge, skills and experience:
Education:
- PhD or equivalent in relevant life science area.
Experience:
- First class research scout with a demonstrable East Asia track record in the application of new science and technology to research programmes.
- Five or more years in a global leadership position within academic or pharmaceutical research, preferably within metabolic disorders (diabetes, its complications or obesity).
Personal skills:
- Established and flourishing network among academia and biotech industry.
- Excellent communication skills with fluency in Mandarin and English.
- Experience with protein/peptide pharmaceutical research and/or development.
