Job Summary
The Integrated Communication Supervisor is responsible for media engagement, both traditional and social that protects and enhances UPS’s reputation, and for supporting key business priorities through the development of proactive and reactive communications plans and tactics. He/she develops relationships with the media and third parties, and monitors editorial coverage for fairness and accuracy. The Supervisor writes and edits news releases, statements, speeches, by-liners, and case studies. He/she provides crisis communications and serves as a media spokesperson. The Supervisor also manages the development and execution of integrated communications campaigns and programs.
Job Duties
Develop and Manages Integrated Communications Projects
Develops and communicates the plan to guide creative development and to support the marketing plan.
Develops timelines and milestones to identify risks and to meet launch date.
Collaborates with stakeholders and other Communications’ functions to ensure accuracy and consistency of message.
Prepares reports for senior management to provide updates on the projects’ progress, risks, results, and successes.
Measures return on investment and the sales force and stakeholders’ satisfaction and usage to optimize future campaigns and to determine project success
Supports PR and Social Media Plans and Tactics
Works with PR agencies to create PR plans that incorporate business, cultural, and media practices to advance UPS’s reputation.
Communicates with Region staff on tactics and scope of PR plans and acts as liaison for information requests from the field to ensure a quick response.
Supervises specific projects and budgets to ensure timely execution of plans and efficient use of PR resources.
Consults with the appropriate PR teams to ensure alignment of PR with Corporate directives.
Manages day-to-day social media activities and participates in social media strategy discussions.
Communicates Messages and Coordinates Agency Communications
Writes and edits media materials (e.g., press releases, talking points, case studies, statements, position papers, Q&A, social media, etc.) on current events, new products/services, policies, etc., to protect UPS’s image & support the business plan.
Coordinates media pitching assignments to avoid duplication of effort.
Monitors effectiveness of agency staffers through news clip analysis to gauge how well the intended messages are incorporated into stories written by their assigned media.
Reviews and approves agency invoices to ensure PR budgets are efficiently administered.
Monitors and Communicates with Assigned Media
Ensures coordination between functions, on a fast-track basis, to respond to news media under tight deadlines to maintain continuity of message.
Coordinates approvals through Legal, PR, and SMEs before releasing information to the media to protect and enhance UPS’s reputation.
Serves as UPS spokesperson to the media on designated matters and prepares executives and SMEs for interviews, provides background on the media, and monitors stories to gauge message effectiveness.
Develops relationships with media through meetings, industry events, calls, emails, etc. to foster rapport.
Persuades media to correct inaccurate reporting through modifications to the media’s archives and/or through additional stories.
Builds and Maintains External Relationships
Prepares fact sheets, Q&As, etc., to educate media on issues.
Supports media coaching initiatives for Management Committee members to prepare them for interviews with the media. .
Responds to requests for information from the media, analysts, and third parties from the release of financial announcements (i.e., quarterly and annual report news releases, dividend announcements).
Responds to media reports about customer service problems to protect UPS’s reputation.
Establishes Crisis Communications with the Media
Assembles background information and facts about accidents and crises to ensure that UPS responds to information requests appropriately.
Performs preliminary analysis of reputation risk and helps determine strategic direction for communications (e.g., reactive, proactive, limited or full disclosure) to maintain UPS’s positive public image during a crisis.
Helps develops key messages in a timely fashion for dissemination to the public (usually in collaboration with Customer Communications’ crisis team and/or Legal) both to protect and enhance the UPS brand.
Qualifications
Degree holder in Public Relations, Marketing and Communications; Master's Degree is preferred
Minimum 5 years relevant working experiences, developed either in-house or in an agency environment with emphasis on BB communications
Agency management experience and Crisis management experience is imperative
Excellent articulation and organization skills with ability to work with people at different levels
Excellent time management skills; able to work efficiently while meeting tight deadlines
Self-starter with solid project leadership experience; ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment
Problem definition & structuring ability
Possesses insights into competitive environment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
